He was created a huge rane already which I am sure will get bigger and better. He has even produced badges for a local club on the Island called "Young at Heart" which meet at Borve Hall.

These are couple of pictures of our first clutch of baby lovebirds.

They are 24 days old and the are so tame, and are not hand reared birds.

At this age parent reared cockatiels would be growling like mad!

Here are a few pictures of our baby lovebirds between 7 and 10 days old. For some reason they have waited until winter to have their first clutch.

Fresh case of bird flu in turkeys

About 5,000 birds are being slaughtered after avian flu was confirmed in turkeys on a Suffolk farm, government officials have announced.
The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said the H5 strain was found in turkeys near Diss on the Norfolk and Suffolk border.
The farm also houses ducks and geese and all the birds will be slaughtered.
A 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone are in the process of being set up.
Preliminary tests showed the turkeys, which were being raised for Christmas, had the H5 strain of bird flu, but it is not yet known whether it is a highly pathogenic form of the disease.
All birds are being slaughtered at the premises, and Defra said it was consulting on what further measures may be needed.
Inside the zones, bird movements will be restricted and all birds must be housed or isolated from contact with wild birds.
All poultry keepers on the British poultry register will be notified and EU officials have been informed.

Our cockatiels are coming on just fine. They are at that naughty toddler stage and are just starting to learn "Step Up", "Step Down" and learning to wolf whistle.

Petshop Licence

We are currently going through the process of obtaining a petshop licence with Stornoway Council. We don't actually need one but this should quash any rumours you may hear from Stornoway Petshop who currently have their own issues to deal with.

We at Island Poultry pride ourselves on the quality of our animals and the conditions they live. We receive many positive comments from customers, and even from our local SSPCA officer.

Hand Feeding a Baby Lovebird

I was asked by a friend if I would take a baby lovebird that wasn't growing on like its siblings. Having never hand reared such a bird I must have been mad to say yes.

We have called her Tweeny as she is so small and she is about 14 days old. She is being fed on Harrisons "Neonate Formula" every 3-4 hours. She is eating just under .7cc

UPDATE

I am sorry to say that she did not live past a few days. She was eating fine but not growing.

Today our first Quail hatched. They are so small, it's amazing that they hatch from an egg the size of a Cadbury's chocolate mini egg.

I'll keep you posted on how many hatch, so far we have 3 the other one is shy.
